Nail Story

Fair warning…

This is a post about finger nails.

I am not much of a makeup lover. I used to wear it every day. Now I literally only wear it for extremeley special occasions (the last time I wore makeup was my friend’s wedding and that was because I was a bridesmaid).

HOWEVER!! I love painting my nails. I love wearing fake nails. If I wasn’t such a terribly anti-social, shy timid mouse I’d get my nails done at a salon every month. Luckily, for my bank, I don’t (except when my friends want to go get it done, too).

I only spoil myself on 2 things beauty-wise. My hair and my nails.

Anybut, I’m really only bringing this up because I just finished glueing on new nails and I love the feeling of typing on a keyboard with new long nails.

I know they’re not LONG long, but for me (a habitual nail-biter) these are frighteningly long.

Also, I don’t even care how sloppy the glue is…these probably won’t last the week, anyways…I’m not very good at being careful with them.

Damn It, Jerry!

By now, you all know of Squiddly Diddly. The plush Octopus I bought from Target who haunted my dreams unti I finally bit the bullet and brought him home.

But I have another undersea friend who’s been with me for a couple years…

Behold:

His name is Jerry. He’s a tiger shark who just wants to be your friend. He’s named for all the Jerry’s in the world….you know the ones…

Anybut, I got him…I think from the Maui Ocean Center…or maybe from the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach….I can’t really remember, but I like him. And I think he’ll make a great friend to Squiddly Diddly.

Random News

Discussing things that happened…

Time to talk about 5 things that’ve happened and state my random opinion about them:

  1. Disney+ Launched! Disney’s new streaming site is live…yay? The main issue is this…yes, companies want to cash in on the streaming craze…yes, they don’t want to share the money with third parties like Netflix or Hulu…HOWEVER!! Eventually every company is going to do this and there will be so many separate streaming sites that will cause audiences to get overwhelmed. Then something new will come along and it will all start over again.
  2. Sonic the Hedgehog movie revamp. For those not in the know: the trailer for the new Sonic Movie didn’t go over well when it first released. People didn’t like the redesign of Sonic. So the studios put a lot of money in to “fixing” Sonic….and it was worth it. Will the movie be any good? Who knows. But Sonic looks like Sonic sooooooo…good job?
  3. YouTube News: New rules are being implemented to protect the children…who shouldn’t have been using YouTube without their parents anyways. In case you haven’t been part of the YouTube crowd here’s a poorly described history of this issue: Channels/videos aimed at kids became popular. They weren’t blatant in what was a sponsored video or what products they were paid to promote. FTC doesn’t like that (cause it’s illegal: you have to say what is an ad when you aim at children because they can’t identify what is an ad and what isn’t). ALSO, pedophiles took these videos and made creepy playlists. They also put time stamps in the comments for parts of the video that other pedophiles would like…creepy shit! SO, now YouTube (after getting into a SHITton of trouble) is rolling out new rules for videos. You have to say whether your videos are Made for Kids or not. If you mark Made for Kids a few things happen. First, there will no longer be a comments section. Second, the channels will no longer have the ability to make playlists with videos marked as Made for Kids. Third, they will no longer have ads run on the videos. There are some other things, too, but I can’t remember them. Oh, and on top of all these new rules, if you mislabel your videos as Made for Kids when they’re not…you could be fined or have your channel deleted. Those kids channels are gonna lose a huge amount of revenue and there hasn’t been much discussion about how this affects channels that label their videos as Not Made for Kids. Gonna keep my eye on this piece of news as major new rules will be coming in January…
  4. Jeopardy moment. A contestant who didn’t know the answer to Final Jeopardy bet all but $5 of his winnings. But it was what he wrote that’s the news. He wrote “We ❤ you, Alex!” The usually stoic host choked up and broke the hearts of so many watching.
  5. And the last random news is a little update to a post about my Alma Mater and some drama happening. Click here to catch up…I’ll wait….caught up? Good. So not too much to update, but two things. First, the President of the school has commented and, of course, took the side of his wife. Second, the school paper has commented on the drama. Sure it’s an opinion piece, but it’s kind of a big deal. The school is relatively conservative as I’ve mentioned in my post. So when the school paper actually calls out a professor…it’s a bit of a big deal. They’ve also gone on record clearing up an article they wrote on the Dean of the Communication School. Since she’s running for Congress, the paper wanted to write a piece on her to get her positions out for students to read. She basically ignored the students, giving them “bare minimum” answers to questions and refused to be interviewed. So, the student paper did what most papers do when in a time crunch. They released a “soft piece”, a very catered form of news that doesn’t really go into detail. LITERALLY 5 DAYS LATER, the paper released a statement saying the piece “compromised our ethical integrity in order to comply with her lack of cooperation”. Let me emphasize two things. First, when you run for a public office it is that…PUBLIC. The Dean claimed she wants to keep her work life separate from her personal life….um, when you run for public office…that is your work and personal life. It’s PUBLIC!! Second, it’s not like the newspaper was some random paper. It was the newspaper for the SCHOOL SHE WORKS AT!!!! Also, where she is the DEAN OF THE COMMUNICATIONS SCHOOL!!! But I guess we can’t truly be upset with her…….she only became Dean when her husband became President of the school……nepotism.

And that was 5 random news stories.

This isn’t going to be a regular thing cause some news is too repetitive. And I only want to cover small stories that interest me/stories people may not have heard about…and like one BIG story.

Anybut, thank you for joining me.

These were MY opinions on each. Your opinions may be different and that’s fine. Now on to more random things!!

Random Food Update

I love to snack…

Nibbling on snack foods while I work actually, in a weird way, help me concentrate more…maybe there’s some science behind that…maybe not…whatever.

Anybut, I’m trying to find “healthier” snack foods to nibble. I’ve gone from potato chips to pretzels. I’ve nearly cut candy entirely from my life. I’ve started eating more yogurt, grapes, fruit snacks, and granola.

Am I doing this to lose weight? Partly (I’m going on a cruise in a couple of months and I want to be able to eat all the amazingly delicious food on the ship). Mostly, because I don’t want to feel like a gremlin…and my skin doesn’t break out as much when I cut out the greasy snacks.

This has been a random food (snack) update.

Story Time: Paris Edition

Don’t get too excited…

I was very lucky. When I was in middle school I had the opportunity to travel to Europe. We went to England, Spain, and France.

But the focus of this story time is one night in Paris, France.

My french teacher thought it would be a good (and informative) idea to take a group of MIDDLE SCHOOLERS to see a musical in french.

What musical?

The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Now, the Disney Hunchback had already come out and we, the naive students we were, thought we were seeing a stage production of the Disney movie.

OH HO HO! Definitely NOT!

We were seeing a musical that didn’t resemble the colorful Disney film in the slightest.

It was Notre Dame de Paris…starring Garou and Bruno Pelletier.

Now for those of you who don’t understand why I put that pause there…well, it was kind of a big deal in France. It almost single-handedly revived musical theater in France (ok, confession, I looked this up and this is what Wikipedia says so…take that as you will).

Also, if you’ve ever heard of Il Divo, they sang the opening song from this musical…a lot.

The song is Le Temps des Cathédrales. Look it up and you’ll most likely say, “I’ve heard this song before…how is that possible?”

Well, a lot of classically trained singers >cough< Josh Groban >cough< love to sing this song.

It’s a gorgeous song, don’t get me wrong, but this isn’t exactly the point of this story.

Anybut, Bruno Pelletier was the one who sang this song and he became very famous for it. And Garou went on to become a very popular singer in France, too.

The point I’m trying to make…I was too young to really give a crap about who was in the cast.

And, spoilers, I fell asleep about halfway through Act I. I was barely a tween.

All I truly remembered about this show was that opening song (even as a kid I knew that was a killer song), Quasimodo having a very gravely voice, and actors climbing up and down a wall. That’s it.

Have I looked up the musical online and watched the whole thing? Yes. Did I do it mostly because I wanted to make sure I didn’t make up the entire thing? Also yes.

Whew…this was a longer post.

I guess the main point I think I was going to make was the fact there are things that happen in your life that seem like a small blip in your life. And then when you get older you realize that tiny blip was a larger blip for…well in this case an entire country…sort of? I don’t know. It’s 4 in the morning and I need to sleep.

Goodnight.

Zombies? Really?

I had a nightmare…

It was out of nowhere. I haven’t watched anything with zombies or talked about zombies in months.

AND YET!!

I had a nightmare where I was the leader of a group of survivors. We were living in (randomly) the house I lived in Indiana. One of the survivors wanted to take one of our cars to find…food? Or maybe it was one of her children who ran off…I don’t really remember.

Anybut, I told her it was too dangerous and she sat on the porch step as I walked inside.

Next day, I was checking the security fence (electrified apparently?) and realized it was powered down and zombies were approaching, a  huge horde. I sounded the alarm and all the survivors ran into the house.

As I joined them, one of our cars pulls up and I angrily yell at the survivor I spoke to the day before. I tell her to close the garage door and run inside.

Inside, we start blockading the doors and windows. Everyone is taken to the basement except for a handful who go upstairs to take sniper positions.

I go to the basement and we block the door with bookcases and a chest of drawers. Everyone is told to be silent and we wait for the horde to pass.

However, as I check on the survivors, I notice one of the windows (which are covered to keep the zombies from seeing inside) has a hole in it and I see a decomposing eye peeking in.

I quickly grab a knife and stab the zombie, killing it and luckily its body keeps other from seeing inside.

Then I woke up…cause I think the zombies were  about to break in and my fear woke me before everyone stared dying.

It was the first very detailed dream I’ve had in a while. A full 3 or 4 scenes I remembered. Usually it’s a cacophony of scenes that don’t make sense together.
