Spooky Ooky Season

The season of scares is upon us!

Though it’s going to look very different this year due to ongoing crises including but not limited to the disease that shall not be named, there are still things that can put us all into the Holiday Spirit.

And with the spooky holiday approaching I think it’s time for some lists!

Starting next Monday (because I didn’t have this idea until today and I don’t want to half-ass this) I will do daily lists that relate in SOME way to the Holiday season….Halloween season of course.

So get ready for some fun lists that are 100%, purely my opinion and will probably lead to some debate…….not THAT kind of debate.

See y’all then!!!

Bloodfall Arena Audiobook now available!!

I don’t know why, but I’ve been a day off for almost a month now.

ANYBUT!!!

ANNOUNCEMENT!!

The audiobook of my debut fantasy novel Bloodfall Arena is now available to buy!!

I have to absolutely give it to the AMAZINGLY talented Zura Johnson for bringing my characters and the story to LIFE!!!

Definitely check her out at snowinkstudio.com

Available now on Amazon and Audible.

A Sign?

I am a firm believer…that signs are purely coincidental.

If you believe in them, power to ya. But I’ve never held much thought to them.

Have there been supremely ironic moments in my life? Yes. Do I believe they have to do with the future? Rarely. More often than not they refer to the past. In other words…I believe more in karma than signs.

I can hear some of you saying, “how can you believe in karma but not signs.”

Cause I do. And that’s enough.

ANYBUT!! The whole point of this post isn’t actually to have a debate on the difference between karma and signs and blah blah blah.

But I DO find it highly coincidental that I’m alone in the house currently and all of the sudden the backyard has become a gathering spot for all kinds of animals.

…Okay mostly feral cats.

……And OKAY! I’m not ALONE. My two cats are here.

But I didn’t expect to have an episode of Pepe Le Pew play out in my backyard.

Yep. I had a skunk pay a visit during the night.

Let me set the scene: My black kitten is meowing at the window and I go over thinking she sees a bug. I see the feral cat snooping in the bushes.

The feral cat jumps and runs up the hill. Out of the darkness, the skunk emerges and follows the cat up the hill. I can’t hear anything, but judging from the cat’s body language, it didn’t like the attention.

The skunk eventually gets the memo and goes down the hill and into the yard. It wanders around digging and sniffing. I guess looking for bugs…do skunks eat bugs? Sure, bugs.

Glamor shots were taken and nobody or house got skunked…..I can’t speak for the poor feral cat that was trapped on the hill until the skunk disappeared into the night.

Scoping out the damage in the morning, I find holes in the dirt and one, small pile of skunk doodie.

What does this have to do with signs? Well, if I believed in signs…I would say this is probably not a good one.

But since I believe in karma……what the hell did I DO?!

Friendly Reminder

For those of us who haven’t driven their car in months….I hope everyone has been remembering to at least drive a short distance to make sure your car stays well…

Cuz I didn’t…and now my car battery (which is less than a year old btw) is dead.

It’s my own fault. But it’s reminded me how long this has been going on. The theater I work for has been closed since March…and will be closed until next year.

Anybut, called AAA and got the battery jumped. The dude told me to drive it around for 30-60 minutes. I drove for about 30 minutes and then made the STUPID decision to go through a drive-thru.

I was thirsty, there was one car in line, so I didn’t think it would be a problem.

It was a problem.

Ordered the drink, had to wait five seconds for the car in front of me to pay and move on…it was 5 seconds too long.

The battery died. A truck pulled up behind me. A very nice gentleman helped push my car through the line to a parking spot. I yelled at the confused worker in the window that my battery was dead and I’d be back to pay.

After my car was “parked” I went in and paid for my drink then called for help. I sat in my car drinking my cursed soda while I waited for a tow truck to come and take my car to the same place I bought my battery.

Luckily, the battery was still under warranty so all I had to pay for was labor.

And that’s the story……oh and they had Ghostbusters 2 on the TV…followed by Goonies.

Yeah. Please don’t be a moron like me and be sure to drive your car at least twice a week.

BIG NEWS!!

A while ago…like a long while ago…I mentioned the fact I was publishing a book…

Well…

IT’S HERE!

It’s available to buy now! Normally I wouldn’t self promote on this blog…okay that’s a lie, but normally I would be too anxious to do it.

But I’m proud of this book. I’ve been working on this fantasy series for 10 years and these past 4 or 5 months have been stressful.

Stressful because of what’s going on in the world and stressful for having to go through the publishing process with an independent publishing company and no agent.

ANYBUT! Here it is! My baby and my nightmare:

It exists! There are physical copies humans can buy! (As well as digital copies)

“But where can I buy a copy?” You may (not) be asking.

Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play Books, Apple Books, Kobo, and SO MANY MORE!!!

I’ll put links where I can.

Here is the back cover blurb for all y’all:

Aya Flandeen's rare gift has always set her apart from the rest of her village. Though she yearns to venture into the outside world, she didn't expect her journey to start with a brutal slave-trader's raid. Revealing her powers to save the townsfolk, Aya's heroism ends in disaster when she's abducted and compelled to participate in a gladiatorial fight to the death.

Aya barely survives the brutal combat thanks to a surprising ally, a mysterious young man who also possesses a magical gift. But when a cruel king drops them both into a savage tournament, her only chance lies in teaming up with fellow captives to oppose the deadly beasts and assassins.

Can Aya lead a revolt and escape the violent contest?

National Vote by Mail day

This is truly one of the only times I will be political…because it’s important.

Voting by mail is safe, is easy, and, for someone with anxiety, makes the whole process less stressful. You get the ballot early enough to do research on any position you don’t know about in order to make a real educated vote.

ALSO!!! You can track your ballot and know the EXACT moment your vote is counted.

With all of the concern over the virus that must not be named (otherwise algorithms tend to push your post to the grave) voting by mail is the safest option available.

Though there are still a number of states that require excuses in order to vote by mail, most do not…so there is NO EXCUSE not to do it!

Check if you’re registered to vote and get the resources you need to vote by mail here: https://votesaveamerica.com/be-a-voter/

Enough political talk…but really, consider voting by mail if you hate standing in long lines and feeling pressured in a small box…like I do.

I miss the music

March 1st was the last time I worked in the theater. And I’m going to get a little serious here, for a minute.

I miss the music. I miss my friend(s). No need to ask me. What I prefer. I choose the music.

Any Curtains fans reading? Anyone? For those not in the know…Curtains a musical. I made a musical reference in my serious post.

Anybut, I wish there was something that can be done. I wish there was some magic spell all the artists who are out of work could cast…pun intended.

Cause I guarantee, every artist is doing what needs to be done…but a small majority seems unable to put aside politics and their own egos to buck up, do what needs to be done, so we can ALL get back to work.

But that’s just my opinion…

>vomitting at the cliche line I typed<

And to add to this serious post:

Perhaps when we all get back to work, we can accept the truth that there is no reason casting has to be so…lacking in diversity. Historical accuracy be damned. If someone fits the role, they FIT THE ROLE! If we can suspend belief to accept people randomly breaking out into song and dance, I think we’re ready (and long overdue) to suspend our belief in other things as well.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!

I have a big announcement….you probably guessed that from the title of this post….

Anybut, I’ve been teasing this news for a while and now I can stop the tease and tell you what I’ve been working on for…well….feels like forever.

I’M GETTING PUBLISHED!! I’ve written a fantasy series and it’s going to be available to BUY!!

I don’t have a date quite yet, but it’s VERY soon.

If you want to be one of the first to learn when and where you can buy a copy make sure to check out my author web page at: jaludwig.com

I’m very excited to share this project I’ve been working on for SOOOO long! But I won’t be promoting it (besides this post) on this blog. That’s what my author page is for.

Random Updates

It has been [insert number of days] since my last post….yes leaving the brackets is intentional.

SOOOOO….here are some random updates:

1. My work (theater) is gone until next year. Expected, but still a bummer.

2. Hair update (ignore the random redness on my chest…I was in the sun too long and because I’m sooo damn pale…I ACTUALLY got a small sunburn…yes, really):

Before: After:

I was able to go in to get my hair done. Didn’t schedule a next appointment cuz who knows what’s going to happen in 8 weeks (which is my usual time between appointments). Everyone was very on the up and up with masks and social distancing.

3. I have BIG news coming soon…very soon…SO if you don’t follow me on Twitter…you should. Or else you won’t hear my big news. You can follow me @J_A_Ludwig

4. I used my $1200 stimulus check to buy me a new Switch and finally jumped on the Animal Crossing New Horizons bandwagon. My island isn’t ready for visitors yet, but maybe once it is I’ll show some pics.

That’s about it for updates…yes really. Hopefully in the next few days, I’ll be doing some more stuff. We shall see.

Personality Flaw?

What does it say about me that I have a much larger panic attack when someone asks me to make a decision versus someone giving me constructive criticism?

I mean, the latter is literally someone taking something I’ve been working on for almost 10 years and giving it the middle school english teacher treatment…you know…the red pen of editing death!

Overdramatic, I know.

HOWEVER! That doesn’t send the shock of terror and embarrassment up my spine as much as someone asking for my opinion and to make a decision.

WHAT IS THIS?! WHAT IS THIS ODDITY?!

Anybut…I’m procrastinating right now.

………..After procrastinating from the site for 2 weeks…gow, my procrastination needs a little work.
